Green Buildings
Green buildings are structures that integrate elements such as energy, water, materials, and indoor environmental quality, resulting in low environmental impact and high performance. Their aim is to create buildings that reduce the consumption of natural resources, prioritize user comfort, lower operating costs, and minimize their impact on the climate.
The green building approach developed as a solution to rising energy costs, climate change, and indoor air quality problems. Today, this approach, supported by international certification systems such as LEED (USA), BREEAM (UK), DGNB (Germany), and WELL, has become a global standard, aligned with the European Union's "Net Zero 2050" targets, the EU Green Deal, TCFD, and sustainable finance criteria.
The following criteria are generally considered during the design and construction phases of green buildings:
Energy Efficiency: Lower energy consumption and reduced carbon emissions in heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation.
Water Management: Smart plumbing systems, greywater/stormwater utilization, and efficient landscaping solutions.
Material Selection : Environmentally labeled, recycled, local, and less harmful materials for human health.
Indoor Air Quality: High air quality, low VOCs, natural daylight, and thermal/acoustic comfort.
Waste and Resource Management: A minimum waste approach during construction and operation phases.
Site Ecology: Landscape design that protects biodiversity and reduces the heat island effect.
